Hannah's Highest Regard
Atwell Kin series - Book 5
That same night Jake also told her that he did not want her to feel bound to any commitment should she find another man who appealed to her. He had been so concerned that, with him being required—probably for years—to serve on the frontier along with all the dangers involved, he might not survive the experience. He assured her, with the way he felt then, once he was in the position to offer for her hand, he would choose her. Until then, she was free to consider other marriage prospects.
Hannah had felt so sure that night she would never find another man she cared for more than Jake Burdock. She had no intention of looking. She still felt the same. Yet, as she prepared to read the latest two letters from Jake, Margarete’s words niggled at her. She read again the message that came with the locket.
As she stared at the far wall, Hannah dropped her hands holding the letters into her lap. Yes, he valued her as a correspondent. She knew he trusted and respected her and her opinions. She knew he held her in high regard. Then again, the words he penned on the paper would have been an appropriate expression of deep trust and friendship he might give to anyone, including a male friend.
Hannah bit the corner of her bottom lip. Does highest regard mean the same thing as love?
