Cole
Cupids and Cowboys Book 8
“Oh, I don’t need the horses stopped to talk.” Lucy waved her hand as if directing him to continue driving the carriage. “I just want to know why your younger brother is getting married before you are. It doesn’t have to be that way, because I know who you can marry.”
“Lucy! That’s none of our business.” Feeling heat rise in her face, Amelia jerked her gaze toward Cole.
“I don’t mind answering her.” His gaze filled with amusement and a smile on his face, Cole turned to Amelia. Then he focused his gaze on Lucy. “Will has already settled into a good job with our stepfather. After he met Susannah, Papa Rick and my ma told him, if he decided to ask Susannah to marry him, they would fix up this old one-room cabin on the property to be a starter home. As for me, I chose to work for your papa. I really like my job, but it means I live in a bunkhouse with several other men. I won’t ask anyone to marry me while I’m living there.”
The sound of the horses’ hooves striking dirt filled the air for several seconds.
Lucy sat with her hands folded in her lap and her lower lip sticking forward.
As she looked at the dejected expression on her face, Amelia felt her heart go out to her sister. Lucy is still figuring out how things work. She offered a reassuring smile as Lucy turned her gaze on her.
Lucy wrinkled her forehead and tightened the skin around her eyes as she turned to face Cole. “Then, how are you ever going to get married?”
look forward to sharing A Bride for Quentin. Its main character, Quentin Thompson, a telegraph operator, is a minor character in some of my Sweethearts of Jubilee Springs books. After considering the theme of Mistaken Identity Mail Order Brides, I decided this story would be perfect for this series, too.
