Eleanor
The Switchboard Sisterhood series
“Thank you. It was nice meeting you. And thank you again for coming to my rescue.”
“Happy to do it. See you later.” Frankie watched the pretty woman wave as she turned and continued walking toward the restaurant. Once she pushed the door open and entered, he quickly stepped inside the laundry building. Finding the table where he had placed the job advertisements next to his duffle bag, he picked them up and fingered them until he found the one for Anchorage. After placing the postcard-sized notice on the table once more, holding the rest of the notices, he turned toward the bulletin board.
“You about finished with your laundry, Frankie? I hoped you were ready to go back to the boat soon.”
Upon hearing Paulo’s voice behind him, Frankie twisted his upper body to face him. “Still working on rinsing them, Paulie. Do me a favor and give that agitator stick a few shakes. Why they don’t have electric washing machines, I don’t know.” He shook his head. “I’ll be there in a minute to help run everything through the wringer.” He turned back to face the bulletin board once more.
“What are you doing?”
“I was looking for job offers in Alaska. Like I told you before we left La Playa, if I find something that interests me, I plan to work in Alaska, at least for the summer.”
“Looks to me like you are tacking job notices up, not taking them down.”
“I am. I’m only keeping the one for Anchorage.”
“What’s in Anchorage?”
“A salmon cannery looking for people to work for the summer, and a pretty blonde.”
