Joshua's Bride
Land Run Mail Order Bride series, Book 1
by Zina Abbott
“So, that little gal you’re writing to, do you plan to marry her before you decide where you will settle?” Harland nodded in the direction of Joshua’s letter.
Joshua shook his head. “Wouldn’t be right to ask her to throw her fortunes in with mine when I can’t even offer her a home. You don’t expect her to share the loft with me, do you?” He swung his hand in the direction of where he made his bed and kept his few belongings. If Harland planned to trick him into admitting he would be leaving for Arkansas City soon, Joshua intended to make him work harder than that. “I’ll be in the shed, Harly. If Mr. Smith shows up, send him my way.”
Alone, Joshua pulled the bench he kept standing on end in the corner over to the edge of the shade so he could read his letter in good light. He read through it twice before slowly folding it and returning it to the envelope. Stretching his legs in front of him and crossing them at the ankles, he leaned against the side wall of the storage building and stared out the open doors as he thought about what he read.
So, Miss Rose Calloway planned to leave Cutler, Iowa. Her sister’s job situation having become disagreeable, Marigold Calloway now sought a new position elsewhere. Because Rose’s seamstress business did not generate enough income to support her, she would go with her sister. Until sometime in August, they would stay in Cutler, where they had housing already prepaid as part of her sister’s teacher’s salary. That was, unless her sister found a better situation sooner. For now, he could still reach her in Cutler. If that changed, she would let him know—if he still wished to continue the correspondence.
Set in the days of the Oklahoma Land Runs, Joshua's Bride is now available for purchase as an ebook. It is also available at no additional cost with a Kindle Unlimited subscription.
