“I don’t want to stay if you’re going, Mari. I’ve already decided that. I-I just wish I knew what to expect for my future.” Rose closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead. She brought the glass of water to her lips once more. Setting her glass down, she reached into her pocket and removed Joshua’s letter. “Right now, prospects of a marriage with Mr. Kent don’t look promising.” She pulled the page from the envelope and unfolded it. “He actually spoke of marriage in this letter, Mari.” She stared at the words without reading them again. “He said he’d like to offer marriage. However, he feels his quest for a suitable marriage partner might have been premature. He believes there will be a land run in that Cherokee Outlet, but he still has not heard when.” She tipped the letter and dropped it so it lay flat on the tabletop. She raised her gaze to meet Marigold’s. “He won’t offer marriage until after he can get some land and build a rudimentary house.”
