Saturday Snippet: He Admitted Only to Himself

The following snippet is taken from

Cole

Cupids and Cowboys Book 8

As dreams of the future filled his mind, Cole sat straight in the saddle and inhaled deeply. Someday, if enough unclaimed land remained available, and he felt he was in a position to buy cattle, he might be able to file a homestead and gain one hundred and sixty acres that way. With a homestead, he must live on the land, though, which meant that his job on the Barker Ranch would end. He needed to make improvements to the land and raise enough cattle to support himself.

The visage of Amelia Barker next popped into his mind. Beautiful, with brunette hair and dark eyes, Cole admitted only to himself the attraction he felt for the oldest of Ed Barker’s daughters. In his most far-fetched dreams, he pictured her as his wife, keeping their house when she was not riding by his side. A sense of his heart swelling out of his breast filled him at the thought of her sitting on her horse next to him—on this very piece of land—as they looked out over the ranch they were building together.

What is coming next? Like Cole, the book is set in  California, specifically in Sonora. The town started out as a gold rush town, but by 1885, was a little more civilized--almost.

I recently announced a cover reveal for my book to be published June 25th: A Bride for Quentin. I look forward to writing this book. Its main character, Quentin Thompson, is a minor character in some of my Sweethearts of Jubilee Springs books (most recently, in two of the Train Wreck in Jubilee Springs trilogy). He is the telegraph operator. I've had his story in mind for years. After considering the theme of Mistaken Identity Mail Order Brides, I decided this story would be perfect for this series, too.
