Here is the book description for Hannah’s Lieutenant:

Hannah’s Handkerchief

With her blonde hair and blue eyes, Hannah Atwell knows she is pretty—and she enjoys pretty things.  She spent her life striving to be the perfect, obedient daughter of a Kansas farm family. Now she feels she is destined for something more than being a farmer’s wife living in a soddie.

At a party held at Fort Riley, Kansas, to celebrate the end of the Civil War, Hannah meets First Lieutenant Jake Burdock, who captures her heart. She impulsively offers him her handkerchief as a token of her regard. As her parents resist her involvement with the Army officer, she begins to question if always doing what she is told is to her advantage. Demands of Jake’s job and missed connections keep them apart. Only the letters they exchange keep them connected.

Hannah’s Highest Regard

Hannah stays in touch with 1st Lt. Jake Burdock through letters until they stop coming. While visiting the fort, she meets 2nd Lt. Andrew Call, aide to Fort Riley’s commander. She soon becomes intrigued by him, and he obviously intends to make her his. As Jake Burdock returns to the fort and events unfold, and Hannah makes a startling discovery. It soon become apparent some matters are not what they seem on the surface.

Will the warning from Hannah’s mother that Army officers amuse themselves with poor country girls but marry women from high society prove true? Will Hannah end up with one of the lieutenants? If so, which one?

Saturday Snippet: His Magnanimity Did Not Extend

Today's Saturday Snippet feature

Hannah's Highest Regard

Atwell Kin series - Book 5

Kizzie settled back in her saddle. She pulled her horse forward several feet and turned it so she faced Jake. “Lt. Burdock, I agree with Charlie Gray Cloud. If you truly care for my cousin, you should not wait too long to ask for her hand. She’s sturdier than you think. And, right now, she hates being stuck home working on her parents’ farm and not knowing what the future holds. She doesn’t want to marry a farmer and spend the rest of her life in a sod house. She’s also not like some women who don’t want to move far from their parents’ homes. However, she’s ready for her own household and family.”

His back teeth clenched, Jake again faced forward. He had told Hannah—again in a recent letter—if she found someone else she favored, he did not wish her to feel obligated to wait for him. However, his magnanimity regarding allowing her to find happiness with another man did not extend to Andrew Call—especially if the rumors he heard about the man were true. “Thank you, Mrs. Jones. I do need to find the occasion to visit with Hannah soon. Some things should be said in person, not in a letter.”

Saturday Snippet: It Is Not Time Yet

Today's Saturday Snippet feature

Hannah's Highest Regard

Atwell Kin series - Book 5

While Thomas saw to settling the wagons, mules, and drivers for the night, Jake made his way forward to discover where they intended to set up the command tent. They needed to find out what else Gen. Hancock and those immediately below him needed from the quartermaster’s supplies plus distribute the day’s forage.

Tonight, if all went well and the wagon was not discovered by more senior officers, even though each of them would be wrapped in their own bedrolls, he would share a wagon bed with his assistant. Jake’s thoughts turned to the pleasant prospect of someday sharing a bed with Hannah as his wife. There would be no blankets that separated them, only those that covered them in their own little cocoon of warmth and love.

Jake shook his head to free his desires from going any farther. It is not time yet. He must be more settled in his responsibilities. He must live in a fort with decent housing. He must be able to offer her something more solid than a wagon bed in the middle of the prairie.
