Saturday Snippet: Do You Like Buckskin Horses?

The following snippet is taken from

A Shopkeeper for Christmas

Spinster Mail-Order Brides series, Book 33

Eva tipped her head to the side as she considered. “I doubt they arrived the same night He was born. It probably took them a long time to arrive in Bethlehem. All I know is, they traveled many miles on the backs of camels across a big desert. I’m sure that journey took many weeks—maybe months.”

“Mrs. Potter has a picture book of the Christmas story. It has camels and everything.” Willie wrinkled his nose. “Camels are funny-looking. I don’t see how those wise men could be very smart if they chose camels instead of horses.”

Eva choked down a laugh. “Horses are fine animals, Willie. However, they need water more often than camels do. People and animals sometimes have to go long distances in the desert to find water. I’ll bet the Lord put camels there because they are better suited for long desert trips than horses.”

His eyes narrowed, and his lips pressed together, Willie folded his arms and bounced them against his chest. “I don’t care. I like horses better than camels. In my Christmas story, I want the wise men riding horse—buckskin horses.” He turned to Eva, a question in his gaze. “Do you like buckskin horses?”
