          “Helen…Mrs. Alderman, if you think it’s agreeable for your daughters to accept the help of these young men, I’ll go along to chaperone so you can stay with Danny and Grace. I have my pepperbox pistol, so they’ll be perfectly safe.” The dark-haired beauty reached beneath her apron and pulled out her weapon.

          “Who do you think you’re going to hurt with a little peashooter like that?”

          Upon hearing Jeremy’s scoffing tone, Michael rolled his eyes. Idiot. You are going to mess it up for both you and Will.

          “You, if you don’t behave. If you don’t think it’s big enough, I’ll go back to my wagon and get my longrifle.”

          “Longrifle! That’s what Will and I carry, Kentucky longrifles.”

          “You know how to shoot a longrifle?” breaking into a one-sided smile, Michael tipped his head as he studied the brunette. Green eyes. My dark-haired beauty has beautiful green eyes.

          “I do.” The woman dipped her head. “My father taught me. I used to go hunting with my brothers until they left for Oregon years back. I also used to hunt with my cousins, although they didn’t like it when I brought down more game than they did.” Not cracking a smile, his beauty lifted her chin, an expression of self-satisfaction on her face.
