          “Why would your student hope for me to find the dime?” His forehead wrinkled, a smile teased Jason’s lips as he stared at Francine.

          “Because she hoped, if you found the dime, your good fortune would include me.”

          After staring at Francine for several seconds, Jason’s eyes crinkled with mirth, and his smile slowly widened. “I’ll keep it, then.” He fumbled the small pocket on his vest open and dropped the dime inside.

          After the four finished their servings of pudding, Francine stood and gathered the bowls. “I’ll take the tray to the kitchen and tell Betty we’re ready for pie.” She reached for the tray handles.

          “I’ll help.” Jason sprang to his feet and grabbed the handles before Francine. A firm grip on the tray, he smiled. “Lead the way, my lady.”
