Elise
Rescue Me (Mail-order Brides), Book 8
by Zina Abbott
Upon feeling the backhanded whack against his upper arm, Kurt Neumann turned to his traveling companion. “What is it, Corporal? I’m trying to read the train schedule.”
“Just because I’m still wearing the Union blue doesn’t mean you should still call me corporal, Dutchy. What you ought to be paying more attention to is the Fräulein over there on the platform. If you ask me, she looks like she’s in trouble.” Ash nodded to the left and slightly behind Kurt.
“I’ll check it out when I figure out what time the train I need to catch leaves.” Without turning to look in the direction Ash pointed, Kurt continued to study the train schedule. “What makes you think she’s German?”
“She’s not speaking English or French, I can tell you that. She sounds like Schwartz and Liebermann. Besides, in spite of the foreign look to her clothing, she is rather pretty. If I were you, I wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to flirt a little.”
Good thing I am not you. “I have no interest in flirting with a strange woman.” Kurt shrugged. “They usually want something.”
